Open House August 19 2005* |
Friday, August 19,2005 Thanks for a fun Open House! On Saturday October 15 we hosted our first ever open house, when nearly 400 people visited the office. The open house featured a brief slide show about NOAAs National Weather Service, and the role WFO Quad Cities plays in helping the NWS achieve its mission. Tours of the office operations area and office "weather safety hallway" were also given, along with displays of observation equipment, ASOS wind sensor equipment, and Doppler radar, upper air balloon, weather.gov and history of the Quad Cities weather office poster displays. The highlight event of the open house featured a special balloon launch conducted at 12 noon.
Meteorologist Intern, Tom Philip, explains how a radiosonde works to approximately 150 people during a special balloon launch held at the 1st ever WFO Quad Cites Open House.
Thanks to all our visitors for making this a fun and successful event for all of us! |
